Join NAWIC Wellington members on a tour of Whakamaru just before handover
The Wellington City Mission has been supporting people in the Wellington region for 120 years and they are about to move into a brand new home, Whakamaru.Â
Built by Naylor Love, it is constructed as a hybrid building, steel structure with CLT floors and stairs. Its purpose is unique in both design and operation as a transformative community hub that provides 24/7 wraparound support and community services.The building accommodates a social supermarket, healthcare/medical facility, sacred space, public showers and commercial laundry. It also includes 35 residential apartments and five two-bedroom units as transitional accommodation.
This project has relied heavily on community donations, the City Mission team have done a fantastic job at rallying support from throughout the region. Come and see their hard work, and so many others, brought to life.Â
DATE & TIME: Tuesday 20th of August, 4.30pm to 5.30pm
VENUE:Â 4 Oxford Terrace, Mt Cook, Wellington - Parking is very limited in the vicinity of the site, so keep that in mind when making arrangements for the visit
BRING:Â Hard hat, high vis, safety shoes, glasses.Â
COST: FREE to NAWIC members, $15 for non-members.Â
