    Event description

Join us on the evening of Tuesday 3rd December to hear PhD researcher Simon Thomas talk about his work on the effects of climate change on sediment ecosystems in the Whangateau Harbour. Simon's research investigates how stressors associated with climate change can affect the ability of these systems to carry out important ecosystem functions. He's been carrying out fieldwork in the harbour, using mini greenhouses to simulate heatwaves.

We will also discuss the 2025 HarbourCare work plan, including the proposed workshop programme for the development of the community-led action plan for the harbour.

    ⌚️When: Tuesday 3 December 7:30 - 8:45 pm
    📌Where: Whangateau Hall
☕ Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided.

We're all very aware of the impact of 2009's hot weather on the harbour's cockle beds, so we're very interested to hear Simon's preliminary findings on the impacts of simulated heatwaves on sediment habitat and the creatures living within it.
