Description

Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping our economies, workplaces and communities. From changing how we work and communicate to driving demand for new data centres and energy infrastructure, AI is raising important questions about the future of local communities and the systems that support them.

Some see AI as a powerful tool that could strengthen communities, improve access to knowledge and support local innovation. Others are concerned about its environmental impacts, increasing corporate concentration, effects on employment, and the growing influence of digital technologies over our daily lives.

What does all of this mean for the localisation movement?

In this month's Localisation Sharing Circle, we'll explore the opportunities and challenges that AI presents for building resilient, place-based communities. We'll begin with a short introduction to AI and its broader social, economic and ecological implications before hearing from community groups responding to proposed data centres and other local impacts. Together, we'll explore how localisation projects are engaging with these emerging technologies, and what role communities can play in shaping their future.

Whether you're excited, sceptical or simply curious about AI, this session offers a space for thoughtful conversation and shared learning about one of the most significant technological shifts of our time. 💻🌱

What is a Localisation Sharing Circle?

The Localisation Sharing Circles are a monthly online gathering for people interested in creating more resilient, connected and localised communities and economies.

Organised collaboratively by the NENA (New Economy Network Australia) Localisation Hub, Transition Australia and Local Futures, these sessions provide a welcoming space to connect with like-minded people, share experiences, learn from one another and build stronger relationships across the localisation movement. 🌱

Each circle combines a short presentation with facilitated discussion and opportunities to hear about projects happening across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. Whether you want to contribute your ideas or simply listen and learn, you'll leave with fresh perspectives, practical insights and new connections. 🤝

Together, we're exploring not just what localisation looks like, but how we can respond collectively to the challenges and opportunities shaping our shared future.
