In this session, Dr Melanie Tan will illustrate the concept of clinical governance, and how it should apply in home care – even if clinical care is not provided.

She will also explain how aspects of aged care regulation (relating to home care) relate to clinical governance – and how good clinical governance can support compliance.

By the end of the workshop participants will understand:

  • What clinical governance means in “real life”
  • Essential components of clinical governance
  • Why good clinical governance can support compliance
  • How clinical governance translates to the workforce
  • How to improve the consumer experience through good clinical governance

About the presenter:

Dr Melanie Tan is a Clinical Governance and Medico-Legal Consultant. With diverse experiences as a medical practitioner (in acute care) and lawyer (in aged care, health and medical negligence), Melanie offers a unique and well-rounded perspective to contemporary clinical governance. Melanie also has an interest in how digital health can support clinical governance and vice versa (considered through a clinical, consumer and medico-legal lens) and is available to assist providers to implement digital systems from this perspective.
