What does it take to be a team coach?
Description
Coaching a team is not just coaching several individuals at once.
The moment the client becomes a team, the work changes. You are no longer only listening for one person’s goals, patterns, and assumptions. You are listening for the system in the room: the dynamics, the alliances, the avoided conversations, the unspoken rules, and the way decisions really get made.
You may also be thinking about what makes a high-performing team, and how to help your client pay attention to the issues they may be trying to avoid.
That is what makes team coaching such fascinating work, and why it asks something different of us as coaches.
In this free lunchtime session, we will explore what changes when you move from one-to-one coaching into team coaching, what a team coach needs to notice and contract for, and how the AoEC team coaching competency model supports this work.
The session is especially relevant for AoEC alumni who are curious about developing their team coaching practice. It is also suitable for experienced coaches, internal coaches, HR and L&D professionals, and anyone already trained in executive or business coaching who wants to understand more about working with teams.
We will also introduce the upcoming AoEC Team Coaching Fundamentals Certificate, running virtually from 10 to 12 November 2026, for coaches who want a strong grounding in working with teams.
