Session overview

Understanding autism and neurodiversity is a foundational part of creating inclusive, respectful, and supportive environments for children, families, and educators.

Informed by lived experience and professional practice, this webinar offers a reframed introduction to neurodiversity, exploring how diverse brains think, learn, communicate, and connect. The session invites participants to shift their perspective from asking “what’s wrong” to wondering “what’s different” - and how this matters in everyday practice.

This session is well suited to anyone new to neuro-affirming inclusive practice, as well as educators seeking to strengthen relationships with autistic and neurodivergent children and young people.

What we’ll explore in this session

During this 2‑hour session, we will explore:

  • What is neuroaffirming or neurodiversity affirming, and how this approach differs from traditional deficit‑based models.

  • How neurodivergent brains may experience thinking, learning, communication, and connection differently.

  • Common myths and misunderstandings about autism and neurodivergence.

  • Why language, assumptions, and expectations matter in inclusive practice.

  • How a neuroaffirming lens supports connection, wellbeing, and participation

  • Practical reflections to support more respectful, responsive relationships in everyday settings

The focus is on a shared language and building understanding, kindness, curiosity and appreciation rather than diagnosis or labels.
