What is solidarity in international law? (And what should it be?)
Description
At a time of rising nationalism and geopolitical fragmentation, is global solidarity still possible?
In his new book, Solidarity in International Disaster Response Law (Bloomsbury/Hart 2026), Kaldor Centre researcher Dr Thomas Mulder explores a big question: Can solidarity become more than a principle we invoke – and help shape how the international community works together in times of emergency?
On 24 November, United Nations Independent Expert on human rights and international solidarity Professor Cecilia Bailliet will join Dr Mulder for a special online conversation about his book and the meaning of solidarity in international law.
They will discuss the promise of solidarity, why it matters in international law today and how it can help us think differently about shared global challenges, including disasters, climate change, pandemics, refugee protection and displacement.
