Special Seniors Week Event: What Matters Most - Advance Care Planning Session
Event description
If you were too unwell and not able to communicate your preferences for healthcare or personal care to others, who would speak on your behalf? And more importantly, what medical decisions would you want them to make? What Matters Most to you?
Advance care planning involves planning for your future health care. It enables you to make some decisions now about the health care you would or would not like to receive if you were to become seriously ill and unable to communicate your preferences or make treatment decisions.
In November 2022 there was an amendment to the Guardianship and Administration Act. The changes will provide greater legal force for Advance Care Directives. The change will enable Advance Care Directives to be upheld in any setting where reasonable.
In the Advance Care Planning session, you will learn about:
- What advance care planning is and the benefits
- Legalities of the Tasmanian advance care directive
- Choosing someone to speak on your behalf
- Who to give your directive to
This event aims to provide information to those in the community to understand new legislation and to answer any questions you may have.
This event will not be recorded.
