Wheatbelt Bootcamp: University Skills
Description
Get ahead and ace the essentials of successful university study with these unique workshops available across the Wheatbelt!
In partnership with Lumen Wheatbelt Study Hubs, Curtin University Library proudly presents two University Skills workshops. Come along in person to any of the Study Hubs, including Narrogin, Merredin, Wongan Hills or York, with presenters beaming live from York and facilitators to help you in each location.
These workshops will provide you with the foundation
you need to ace your studies. With different topics across two days you can attend either one or both, depending on what interests you. Between sessions, networking opportunities (and food!) are provided so
that you can begin to build your own supportive study community. This workshop, open to students from all
universities, is a great opportunity to start your studies on the right foot or get yourself back on track. Places

- Focus on academic writing and paraphrasing
- You’ve done your research, but you’re stuck on your first sentence. This session will suggest approaches to make sure you avoid the assignment trap and get you writing with confidence. Struggling with reports, essays or short answer questions, let us know and we'll discuss it in the session.
- Wrestling with referencing
- Many students tell us that they worry about referencing, so let’s start with that! Creating accurate reference lists is a great way to maximise marks and inspire confidence in your research, but it’s so easy to make mistakes. This hands-on, interactive workshop introduces the mechanics of referencing helping you avoid common errors and, if you still have questions by the end of it, there’s time for Q&A.
- Getting started with EndNote (Optional)
- Now that you’re more confident with your referencing, let’s look at EndNote, a bibliographic management tool designed to help you manage your research and references. This hands-on, introductory workshop covers everything you need to know to start using EndNote successfully. Note: You’ll need to bring your own laptop for this session with the EndNote software already downloaded. Your Library can tell you where to get a free copy of the software!
