When Parents Separate: Understanding Parenting Agreements and Family Law (EMERALD)

Women's Legal Service Queensland presents a free legal workshop for community service providers in the Central Highlands region, thanks to the support of the Clayton Utz Foundation.

When parents separate, decisions about children and parenting arrangements can often be complex. This session will equip professionals with an understanding of types of parenting agreements (formal and informal), and court processes in family law parenting matters.

Topics include:

• Types of parenting agreements and things to consider

• Steps to take before considering going to court including family dispute resolution

• Court processes for resolving parenting matters

• How the law considers the best interests of the child, and the role of Independent Children's Lawyers

• Protected Confidences: how sensitive information and records are considered in proceedings

• The intersection of parenting arrangements and Domestic Violence Orders

Designed for frontline workers and practitioners supporting people impacted by DFV, this workshop aims to strengthen practical knowledge, client support skills, and cross-system understanding.
