When the Teacher Becomes the Guide: Seeing the Adolescent Through a Developmental Lens
Event description
Maria Montessori, in her advocacy for meeting the needs of children and adolescents in order for them to reach their full human potential, calls for a serious "transformation of the adult" as well. This workshop will assist us to reflect on our training to remind us of what this means exactly. We know it means acquiring knowledge about human development at all stages of development and becoming a keen observer of the adolescents we are working with. Yet neither of those two growth areas will mean much for the support of adolescents if we don't instinctively remember to shift from the conditioned thinking that our job is to "teach" what we know and "manage'' what we see. Our job instead, says Montessori, is to observe and respond, to guide and aid. Laurie will discuss how to work on manifesting that shift so we can continue best to support the Adolescents we work with.
