Caring for a fellow doctor can present unique challenges. Questions about confidentiality, professional boundaries, assumptions and fear of regulation can make these consultations feel different and affect care for both the clinician and the patient. Doctors do not need different care. They need thoughtful, deliberate care that ensures they receive the same high-quality, holistic treatment as every other patient.
This practical webinar introduces the Ts and Ss Model, a simple framework for approaching doctor-patient consultations with greater confidence.
Through a case study and discussion with experienced GPs, you'll explore common challenges and gain practical strategies that can be applied immediately in clinical practice.

Dr Sarah Newman - Presenter
Dr Sarah Newman is Director of Education and Training at Doctors' Health Advisory Service WA and a member of the Doctors Health Alliance Medical Advisory Council. She is a metropolitan Perth GP, a former 24/7 Advice Line doctor and a Lecturer at the University of Western Australia. Since joining DHASWA in 2018, Sarah has played a key role in education, advocacy and the development of practical resources to support doctors' health. Her work spans clinical practice, medical education and accreditation. She was recognised as RACGP WA Registrar of the Year and AMA WA Junior Doctor of the Year for her advocacy to improve junior doctor wellbeing. Sarah is currently leading the development of Doctor-Friendly Practices, a whole-of-practice model designed to improve access to psychologically safe, high-quality care for doctors as patients. Outside medicine, Sarah enjoys spending time with her family, live music and cooking - with enthusiasm if not always precision.

Dr Margaret Kay AM - host
Dr Margaret Kay AM is Chair of the Doctors’ Health Alliance and a GP with over 20 years’ experience in doctors’ health as a clinician and researcher. She is a senior lecturer at the University of Queensland. Her PhD focused on physician health. She has published widely on physician health and continues to lead national work in this field. She was awarded an Order of Australia in 2022 for her contribution to medicine and medical education.

Professor Helen Wilcox - Panellist
Professor Helen Wilcox is Medical Director of Doctors’ Health Advisory Service WA and a GP with a strong focus on doctors’ health and medical education. She is Dean of the Medical School at the University of Western Australia and has extensive experience supporting medical students and junior doctors. Her work spans leadership, wellbeing and trauma-informed care in clinical training.

Dr Patrick Johnson
Dr Patrick Johnson is a Psychiatrist, Psychotherapist, and Educator. He has worked with medical students, trainees, and medical colleagues across public and private practice. Patrick’s work has included being the CAMHS Clinical Director for a major regional Victorian Service for just on ten years. A particular focus of his work has been on Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, which he continues as the Psychiatrist in the Anaesthetic Department at the RCH in the Pain Management Service. In private practice Patrick has specialised in Psychoanalytical Psychotherapy for adults, supervision, and secondary consultation. Patrick has experience in medical education and student welfare. He has been a Honorary Senior Lecturer at Monash University for over thirteen years and was a visiting Honorary Associate Professor at University College Dublin. Patrick has been involved in teaching and lecturing Medical Students, and in College Training and Exams of Local and Overseas Trainees.
