William Troiani - Obdurate

My show Obdurate defends the proposition that the submersive experience of video games is a deep artistic phenomenon. How this is shown in my work is by displaying this submersion in an artform which already has prexisting established depth: performance. There is always going to be a natural element of taste when one presents their own idea of an artwork, and for me, this taste has roots in 90s video games such as Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Gex: Enter the Gecko, 007 GoldenEye, Super Mario 64, and others. Explicitly: Obdurate is a solo drum performance accompanied by backing tracks, and a video display featuring unheard lyrics.

Obdurate is a piece by mathematician/performance artist William Troiani. Troiani’s vision goes beyond music and in fact, Obdurate is part of a broader artistic concept involving also mathematics and performance art more generally. Having been strongly invested in academia and its pursuit of truth at all costs of human sanity, which then later turned into an unforgiving search for beauty within the more austere arts. Troiani nowadays is bringing all his will together to sacrifice his own tranquility to serve a divine, objective, and beautiful higher power: art. His soul task in life is to complete the task he has been given.

Matt Frequencies - Divergence (formerly The Book of Divergence)

In Divergence, you will take control of the destiny of the rave! This is a story driven musical adventure told through rave music, rock and metal, with spoken narrative – some improvised based on your actions – provided by the DJ, Matt Frequencies.

Matt Frequencies will take on the roles of Father Mathew, Brother Seth and The Glitch, who will vie for your support to tell their story and lead the rave to its ultimate destiny!

With the power of the vote in your hands – literally, in the form of glowing rave sticks where you can select the colour to show your will – you’ll be tasked with choosing the direction of the story, and the music.

Each character has a story and motivation to uncover, but beware – destruction lurks and a decision you cheer for may end up being your doom.
