Event description

Join one of Fitzroy’s favourite daughters, Lorin Clarke, and Regen Melbourne’s Nina Sharpe as we indulge a moment of introspection and crystal ball gazing to ask WTF do we love about Fitzroy, how is it changing, and where do we want it to be in 20 years? FRA’s next Pubtalk promises a bit of levity and self-indulgence in a world that has become pretty bleak of late.

Lorin Clarke is the creator (and narrator) of the award-winning podcast The Fitzroy Diaries, the writer of Would That Be Funny: Growing Up With John Clarke, and a contributor to the recent Fitzroy 1974 by Robert Ashton (with Tony Birch, Gregory Day and Helen Garner). Kick back and relax while Lorin narrates key scenes from The Diaries with performers including a rare special guest appearance from ‘Gayle from Brighton’ (the wonderful Caroline Craig). Sit back, relax, and let these seasoned performers take us through a performed reading of selected scenes from the Diaries. It’s a great opportunity to see our suburb through the fresh eyes of a young (well younger than most FRA members) writer, podcaster and filmmaker.

Nina, lead convenor of Regen Streets – an ambitious project of Regen Melbourne – will lead us through a conversation about why we love Fitzroy and the sort of place we want it to be. We face lots of challenges; population growth, development, housing, climate change, social and ecological threats. Nina will invite you to think about the vision for a future Fitzroy and how we might move beyond these barriers. Regen Melbourne is the host of bold projects for a regenerative Melbourne and an engine for collaboration to develop systemic solutions to these challenges.

This year, Pubtalk moves to a Wednesday evening. Same times – 6.00pm to 8.00pm. Back at The Stone Hotel. So please join us on Wednesday 26th of March at 6.00 pm for a bit of fun and serious conversation. To help pay for the venue, some food etc. $25 or $15 (members and under 30). Or less if needed.
