Description

What if a clearer story could make your reports, funding conversations and community engagement work better together?

There’s always another report to write, programme to run or post to publish. But what connects them? What bigger story are you telling about your organisation’s work — and whose voices are shaping it?

Anyone can now produce content in seconds. The harder task is telling a story people care about and want to be part of. That starts with listening to the communities, participants, staff and partners closest to your work — and making space for their different perspectives to shape the story.

When you’re juggling appeals, acquittals and plans for 2027, story strategy can feel too big or abstract to tackle. At Digital Storytellers, we see it as a way to make that work easier and more impactful: a clearer story can guide what you prioritise, strengthen your funding conversations and help your community understand and engage with your work.

On Thursday 26 November, join us for a free, practical lunchtime hour to start shaping your organisation’s story strategy for 2027. You’ll reflect on your own work, exchange ideas with impact-sector peers and identify a next step to take back to your team.

Digital Storytellers Leading Through Story

Natasha Akib and Mikey Leung, co-founders of Digital Storytellers, will introduce three practices behind story strategy:

  • Story Listening: Whose experiences shape your organisation’s story? Reflect on who gets the platform and whose voices you need to hear.

  • Story Weaving: What connects your stories? Exchange ideas in small groups with peers and explore how different perspectives contribute to a bigger picture.

  • Story Telling: How could you bring that story to life? Discover examples from other organisations and identify a practical next step for your own work.

Along the way, you’ll join small breakout groups with peers from across the sector to swap ideas and hear how others are approaching the same challenges.

Who it's for

For people shaping how an impact organisation’s work is understood — through communications, leadership, fundraising or community engagement. Whether you’re gathering stories or working alongside the people living them, come and explore how those perspectives can shape a clearer story for 2027.

You’ll leave with:

  • A clearer priority for your organisation’s storytelling in 2027.

  • A person or community perspective you need to listen to.

  • A practical next step to explore with your team.

  • A reflection sheet to continue the thinking, drawing on ideas exchanged with peers.

Your organisation’s story takes shape through what you do, what you share and how people experience your work. Start shaping it deliberately, alongside your community, so it can guide the decisions and actions ahead.

About Digital Storytellers

Digital Storytellers is an impact storytelling studio that has spent more than a decade helping not-for-profits, foundations, councils and social enterprises tell stories for a better world. Natasha Akib, Co-Founder and Stories for Impact Lead
Tash helps changemakers build the skills and confidence to tell their own stories. She leads Digital Storytellers’ Stories for Impact workshops and programmes, combining practical tools with thoughtful facilitation to help organisations listen, connect and communicate with purpose. Her work puts storytelling in the hands of the people closest to the experience, helping teams discover what becomes possible when more voices are heard. Her commitment once prompted her to consider fitting a Social Enterprise World Forum workshop around her own wedding. Thankfully, both stories had a happy ending.

Mikey Leung, Co-founder and Director, Digital Storytellers
Mikey helps organisations and communities find their voice and bring stories to life through film, podcasts and shared storytelling experiences. A cinematographer, facilitator and former radio journalist, he brings curiosity and a collaborative spirit to work that connects people with purpose. He co-leads Impact Story Lab Sydney, a creative home for people using stories to make a difference. Away from the camera, he remains available for an unexpectedly committed guitar rendition of ‘…Baby One More Time’.
