Event description

Join ocean literacy specialist Catia Freitas and filmmaker Stefan Andrews for an online professional development session introducing the new White Rock school resources.

The 35-minute documentary White Rock will be available to schools throughout Australia via the ClickView platform for the 2026 school year. You’ll receive a private preview link before the session.

This PD, focused on secondary year levels (Years 7-12) will walk you through how to integrate White Rock into your classroom using our new resource kit - developed to link directly with the Australian Curriculum. You’ll also get an exclusive preview of a new urchin board game.

What’s Included

The full White Rock resource package (via the GSRF Educator Hub) includes:

  • Four thematic units: Background, Ecosystem (Im)Balance, Healing Sea Country, From Challenge to Resource, and Advocating for Change.

  • 16 lessons covering climate change, sustainability, First Nations perspectives, and marine resource management.

  • Flexible delivery options: use one or two lessons, or run the full series.

  • Teachers attending will also receive a free White Rock card deck as a special perk.

Session Overview

You’ll:

  • Hear from Catia Freitas (developer of the resource kit) and Stefan Andrews (director of White Rock)

  • Learn how the film connects science, culture, community action and the culinary story of turning sea urchins from an ecological issue into a sustainable seafood.

  • Discover how White Rock supports discussions on climate change, ecosystem resilience, and sustainable resource management.

  • Gain ideas for integrating First Nations perspectives and Sea Country knowledge in your teaching.

  • Discuss ways to adapt lessons to your students and school setting.
