Whitsunday Art Fusion workshop - Visual Journal - Glenda Vickers

A visual journal, where visuals are mostly used for communication, is usually used for two purposes. The first purpose is for the recording of personal reflections of feelings, thoughts and ideas and where one experiences the freedom to create, explore and experiment to best express these reflections. The second purpose is when a visual journal is used as a space to document your art making process for an artwork.

You will gain experience in both visual journal purposes during this workshop. 

The first day workshop, you will design and create gratitude and affirmation cards, which emphasize the importance of positivity in one’s life. Following reflection activities, you will practice art skills as starting points for journal pages from which you will develop personalised mixed media pages in your own aesthetic style. Emphasis will be placed on expression for self-care and personal wellbeing.

Day 2 workshop, you will create visual journal documentation of the art process for an original artwork in your own aesthetic style. Your visual journal documentation may include finding inspiration, researching, exploration, media choices, experimentation with art materials/composition/layout of images, selection/rejection of imagery, ideas, etc., decision making, discarding, problem solving, development, finalisation and refining, presentation of artwork, brainstorming and recording an artwork title, writing an artist statement, and exhibiting decisions for the artwork.
