Who Has Access? Environmental Information in the Pacific.

Online Report Launch + Talanoa

Across the Pacific, our land and ocean are part of who we are. They sustain our communities, our livelihoods and the wellbeing of generations to come.

But when decisions are being made about our natural resources, do communities have the information they need? Do people know what is happening, who is making decisions and why? And is that information reaching communities in ways they can actually use?

Transparency International New Zealand invites you to join us for the launch of new research exploring these questions in Fiji and Solomon Islands.

This launch is an opportunity to hear what the research found – but also to listen, share and learn from each other.

We'll hear from our researchers in Fiji and Solomon Islands about what they heard from people through the research: what's working, where the gaps are, and what could make a difference for local communities.

Then we'll open the talanoa.

We'd particularly like to hear from people across the Pacific about what you are seeing in your own communities and countries. Together, we'll explore:

• What helps communities access and use environmental information – and what gets in the way?

• What could make a real difference for communities?

• What is already working that we can learn from?

• What can Fiji and Solomon Islands learn from experiences elsewhere in the Pacific?

• What needs to happen next?

Who is this for?

We warmly welcome people from across the Pacific – particularly civil society and community organisations, environmental and conservation practitioners, community leaders, policymakers, researchers, regional organisations and development partners.

The research from Fiji and Solomon Islands is our starting point. Just as important to this talanoa are the knowledge, experiences and perspectives that you bring from your own communities and across our region.
