Whose civics? Whose citizenship?
Description
Whose Civics? Whose Citizenship?
Tuesday 27 October | 5:00–6:00 pm | Online via Zoom
Whose experiences, histories and understandings of citizenship are represented in Civics and Citizenship Education — and whose are missing?
The final event in the Future of Civics and Citizenship Education: AARE Provocations series asks us to think critically about inclusion, representation and belonging.
Nashid Nigar (Monash University) will present a short animated provocation exploring questions of voice, identity and participation in Civics and Citizenship Education.
Sonia Randhawa (Sortition Foundation/ Centre for Australian Democracy) will then offer a 10-minute response before the discussion is opened to participants.
The session invites us to consider not only what we teach when we teach civics and citizenship, but whose conception of citizenship is being taught, whose knowledge is recognised, and what a more inclusive approach might look like.
