Why don't more girls study STEM?

Event description

We get asked this question…..a LOT. And while we believe we understand at least part of the answer, it’s such a nuanced issue we wanted to take it to the experts so our community can really delve into the details.

It is an enormous societal problem and ambitious of us to solve it in one evening. With help from our panellists and by looking back on our own education, we’ll explore what is causing the rejection for girls pursuing STEM long-term and how we can change this trajectory for Gen Z and beyond.

We see time and time again many women finding their footing in tech later in life. This is undeniably inspiring and there is great value from these diverse experiences. So then why is the industry so gate-keeping for young women? We invite you to join us as we unpack this good-old-fashioned sexism and finally figure out how we can make tech education accessible for the next generation of powerhouse women.

Is it heteronormativity? The result of cultural experiences? Is it that we see little girls as only being made as “sugar spice and everything nice” but not as brainy, smart or even scientists?

Let’s find out once and for all where this dismissal stems from for women and non-binary people.
