Event description

Join Epilepsy Queensland for a special presentation of Thinking Outside the Box "Why Neuro Matters: A Symposium on the Future of Neurological Care". This online event offers a unique opportunity to learn about the most current advancements and advocacy in neurological care. You will hear more about the recently confirmed four-year investment of $10.45 million by the LNP Government in neurological care, including the establishment of Neuro Wellness Hubs, as well as the latest advancements in epilepsy treatment. We will explore what this means for the 1 in 4 Queenslanders living with epilepsy and other neurological conditions.

Keynote Presentations

Chris Dougherty

Independent Chair of the Neurological Alliance of Queensland (NAQ)

Former CEO of Epilepsy Queensland and a key contributor to the Neuro Matters Report, Chris brings a wealth of insight into the national neurological landscape. He will speak to the report’s findings and subsequent developments - including the NAQ’s priorities, and an update on the Queensland Governments’ $10.5m commitment to neurological health.

Professor Patrick Kwan

Professor of Neurology, Monash University; Consultant Neurologist and Head of the Epilepsy Clinic, Alfred Health

A global leader in epilepsy care and research, Professor Kwan is pioneering the integration of AI into clinical treatment. He will share insights from the groundbreaking PERSONAL trial, among other emerging therapeutic approaches, and discuss why we should listen to our neurons more.

The live stream will conclude with an audience Q&A session, with the ability to submit questions virtually. The panel will include our keynote speakers, and a special guest, an individual with lived experience of epilepsy whose story connects to the innovations being discussed which will enrich this powerful conversation.
