Wild Yodeling Beginners
Saturday 17th January
10am - 4pm
With a lunch break (please pack your own lunch, we will provide snacks and tea).
~Saturday will include some of the following:
Breathe – Voice – Body Warm-Up
Playful way to learn Yodel - Basics (Technique)
Learning the technical difference between yodeling and singing
Yodel as a chance to learn loud and relaxed singing style (Twang)
How to accompany yodel with long tones in a simple way (typ. Swiss tonality – Appenzell called «zäuerle”)
Demonstration of different yodel styles in Switzerland and around the world
Learning a simple nature yodel
Learning a simple wild Yodel from Sonja Sonja’s CD

Sunday 18th January
The Musical Body and Vocal Improvisation Circle
6-9pm
Sonja and Charlotte will lead the group in sharing, playing, singing, playing and connecting through embodied rhythm and voice and emergent vocal improvisational scores. They may include The Musical Body Process, Circle Singing, Vocal River techniques, lullabies, medicine songs, TaKeTiNa, local birds and frogs calls as inspiration for spontaneous composition and explorations of extended vocal techniques to support our vocal-music-improvisation. The emphasis will be on listening, co-creation and exploring flow together.

Sonja Morgenegg
Münchwilen, Switzerland
Sonja is a Swiss (Yodel) singer, composer, improviser and voice teacher living in the east part of switzerland.
Her experiences and studies in many different music styles and the deep roots in Swiss Yodeling gives her a strong background in teaching yodel and improvise singing in combination.
She loves to play around and to combine this two styles in one and calls it “Wild Yodelling”.
Since several years she teaches also „Nature Yodel“ (a very ancient yodel style from the Swiss mountains). From her travel experiences around the world she has experiences with Yoik, Kulning, Hawaiian and Georgian Yodeling and recorded her own “Wild Yodel Style” on her CD “Wildjodel” and “YouChZ Now”

Charlotte Roberts

Charlotte is a specialist in the areas of body, movement, voice, rhythm and creative process. She is a mentor and facilitator of experiential education, and is the creator of The Musical Body Process, leading groups nationally and internationally since 2003. Charlotte is a registered Taketina Rhythm Process™️ Facilitator, ISMETA registered Somatic Movement Educator/Therapist, Qigong facilitator, VIT registered school teacher and a Tamalpa Life/Art Process® Practitioner.
As a vocal improvisational artist, musician and composer; Charlotte co-composed and co-created projects such as ‘Murmuring Walk’ (an audio-guided walk at Sanatorium Lake Mt. Macedon featuring vocal pieces composed in relationship with local birds' calls and rhythmic patterns) and ‘In Your Arms’ (a guided immersive musical experience for carers and their pre-crawling babies). Along with this, she has released two albums and is currently completing a third. Charlotte has performed in vocal and multi-modal improvisational ensembles, has led ‘United Women’s Voices’ (supported by Creative Victoria) and performed seasons such as ‘Vocal Digs’ at La Mama Theatre. Additionally, through leading The Musical Body Process; Charlotte has explored the relationship between the rhythms and sounds of children's, local bird's and frog's interlocking, playful and developmental movement and voice patterns as a basis for vocal improvisation. Charlotte is currently the artist in residence at RM BEGG Aged Care Home in Kyneton, and the curator of The Singing Shack artist residencies in Newham. Charlotte plays surdo for a monthly TaKeTiNa event 'The Space Between' in Clifton Hill, along with working as a mentor, teacher and expressive arts practitioner with private clients and students who seek her support in developing their work as therapists, facilitators, vocal improvisational artists and composers.
