Event description

Here it is! WILDSKILLS. Rewild's first Overnight survival camp for youth.

Nestled in the heart of the Tweed Valley's lush landscapes, this overnight camp offers an immersive experience designed specifically for youth aged between 10-15 yrs seeking excitement, adventure, and a true connection to the outdoors.

Who is WILDSKILLS for?

Wildskills is suitable for all youth who are keen to learn about survival skills and for those who want some adventure in their life.

Whether you've been to a Rewild school holiday program before or not this experience will be sure to further your skills and knowledge of the outdoors.

It's not just about acquiring new skills, it's about deepening the connection with nature and creating memories that last a lifetime.

What will we do at Wildskills?

Under the guidance of Rewild staff you'll learn essential survival techniques required to get you comfortably and safely through the night.

The priority of the first day is to construct our basecamp and source our basic needs of Shelter, Water, Food and Fire.

Shelter - We'll be sleeping under lightweight tarps (or optional tents) But before we can put the shelters up we'll need to learn some handy knots, we'll have to refine our knife skills and make ourselves some pegs and poles from natural materials to secure our shelter.

Our drinking water will be sourced from the upper Tweed river, so we'll need to learn how to safely collect and purify the water using various methods of treatment and filtration devices.

Camping without a Fire is not an option. We need fire to cook our food, boil water, provide light and to sit around and share stories throughout the evening, but...there's no matches or lighters in sight so we'll practice using more traditional methods of creating fire.

Food will be provided, all cooking will take place on the fire and is sure to include some camp fire favourites (all dietary requirements catered for) Throughout the camp we'll be learning about some locally growing wild edibles (did someone say Bunya nuts? YUM)

Once our camp is established there's plenty of time to sit back and enjoy the experience, practice our bushcraft skills, swim in the river, track animals and create memories.

After dark we'll embark on a night walk and discover the magic of the forest at night while learning about nocturnal wildlife.

Entwined throughout Wildskills will be a selection of fun games and activities that help foster a sense of connection to the local environment.
