Winter Tree Identification
Event description
Class is divided into two sections: 10:30am to noon will be held on in-person to learn about the characteristics that are useful for winter tree ID. We'll look at samples and photographs during this portion, then move outdoors to apply the skills to wild and cultivated trees from 1 to 3.Â
The focus will be on trees that are common in the DC area, with the hope that participants will later be able to identify some of the same trees around the city and watch them transition into spring.
The outdoor portion of the class will involve some walking but we spend significant time standing, so dress in several warm layers with hats, scarf, and gloves. Standing usually feels colder than you expect!
This class is offered on a sliding scale-- please read the descriptions and choose the option that is affordable for you. Keep in mind that paying the higher price makes it possible for me to offer the low-income price! BIPOC participants are welcome to choose a lower-paid ticket in recognition that my privilege is based on histories of oppression of these groups, and two free tickets are reserved for low-income BIPOC participants. For more information about sliding scales please see www.littleredbirdbotanicals.com (please be aware that the numbers on this page are for other services but the principles apply here).
In case of heavy rain this event will be cancelled (with full refund) or rescheduled (option for refund if you can't make the rain date). If there's light rain / drizzle class will be held on schedule.
