Winter Workshop: Matchbox Pinhole Cameras & Caffenol Developer
Event description
Out of the darkness of winter, a week after the solstice, we bring the light back in through a pinhole aperture.
This winter, join us for a workshop in matchbox pinhole photography!
Pinhole photography is a magical way of experiencing the photographic process. As the most primal of cameras, the pinhole must first be created by you, the photographer.
Spend the day with us as we teach you how to make your own camera; a pinhole camera that can take 35mm film. We will walk you through the process of initial construction followed by image making, and finally using a homemade caffenol developer to reveal your magical pinhole visions. This process will be handmade from start to finish, enabling you as the participant to experience photography in the most hands-on way!
You will have the opportunity to not only make images, but to create the camera itself, which you take home alongside a few experimental images in your hand developed film!
We will supply film to share in groups for the workshop but please bring a roll of film of your choosing to reconstruct your camera afterward, so that you leave set to continue making pinhole magic.
While this process enables hand-made engagement at each stage, it is a process with room for the unexpected, to receive visions beyond which you could stage with a conventional camera. It gives way for imperfections and chance to take hold of the process and these can sometimes offer us the most exciting images. Come to this workshop open to the unexpected!
