    Event description

This International Women's Day eve marks WIRE's 40th anniversary. RMIT Culture and WIRE invite you to join us at The Capitol to celebrate and shine a spotlight on an organisation that has given light to so many over the past four decades.

Comedian and host extraordinaire Nelly Thomas will lead the celebrations on stage with a comedic thought-provoking debate titled: "The Good Old Days Weren't That Good". On stage debating this topic will be experts, comedians, and advocates such as Janty BlairRana HussainChris RyanMeg ElkinsYumi StynesClaire HooperGeraldine Hickey and Ro Allen weaving laughter into the fabric of education and awareness, engaging in a spirited discussion on the economic security of women and gender diverse people. Delving into the past and present, our speakers will challenge prevailing narratives, shedding light on the nuanced progress made over the years to foster a deeper understanding of the uneven advances in gender equality.

This event is a unique intersection of celebration and reflection, where knowledge meets entertainment, and voices are amplified. We aim to celebrate progress, acknowledge challenges, and pave the way for a brighter, more inclusive tomorrow. While we acknowledge positive changes, it's crucial to recognise that the journey towards equality has not been uniform for all women and gender diverse individuals.

Through insightful discussions, we hope to inspire awareness and action for a more inclusive future.

Presented in partnership with RMIT Culture, WIRE, and RMIT.
