Join us for our Wirltuti Season Launch Event celebrating the opening of three new exhibitions.

The evening will commence with a Welcome to Country delivered by senior Kaurna man Mickey Kumatpi Marrutya O`Brien, followed by opening remarks from Samstag Director Erica Green and an address by Professor Nicola Phillips, Vice Chancellor and President, Adelaide University.  Guests are then invited to explore the exhibitions before they officially open to the public.

Robert Fielding: Melting Point

Robert Fielding (Yankunytjatjara/Western Arrernte/Afghan/Pakistani)

A new moving image and sculptural installation created in collaboration between artist Robert Fielding, specialist glass makers, and Mimili community members.  This exhibition expands on Fielding’s interest in the car as a potent symbol and tool in contemporary Aboriginal culture.

The 3rd AFF Expand Moving Image Commission: منّت mannat

Naina Sen / Naveed Farro / Harrison Hall

An immersive moving image installation that reimagines the cultural connections between West and South Asia.  The work focuses on Indo-Persian influences and contemporary legacies of Indo-Persian architecture, celebrating the pluralistic ethos and uniquely communal and secular atmosphere of the courtyard of the Sufi shrine, Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya Dargah in Delhi, India.

Keith Piper: 22 Yards of Earth

Keith Piper

A new moving image installation by UK artist Keith Piper that explores cricket as a conduit to national identity and site for the examination of colonial legacies, race, class and social relationships.  This work has been commissioned by the Biennale of Sydney and Samstag Museum of Art with generous assistance from Mark and Louise Nelson, and British Council in Sydney.
