Event description

In this workshop, Nora Bateson will introduce you to Warm Data

Grounded in over a century of deep theoretical roots and a lineage of systems thinking, the Warm Data practices transform complexity science into an experiential approach of profound mutual learning and relationship building.

“There are unexpected possibilities that await in another order of parallel approaches. There is a territory of communication, relationships and daily living that allows for a total change—it is within reach, but not in the solutions currently being reached for.” - Nora Bateson

“Warm Data” is the transcontextual information about and within the interrelationships that integrate elements of a complex system. Complex, systemic challenges are shaped by the interaction of multiple contexts—the economy, nature, politics, culture, technology, etc. —and in order to effectively address such challenges, we have to understand the transcontextual interdependence.

In this session, Nora Bateson will lean into an exploration rooted in theories that are often left out elements of systems thinking that inform Warm Data and get a taste through participation in a Warm Data Lab to experience new kinds of unscripted and unexpected conversations opening fresh perceptions towards emerging territories of responsiveness where the value is in the relationships. These transcontexual conversations open opportunities for unprecedented possibilities we are bound by, unveiling the illusions of independence and widening our sensitivities to the entanglements of our living systems.

More about your host, Nora Bateson: Nora is an award-winning filmmaker, writer and educator, and is the President of the International Bateson Institute based in Sweden. Her work asks the question “How we can improve our perception of the complexity we live within, so we may improve our interaction with the world?”.  An international lecturer, researcher and writer, Nora wrote, directed and produced the award-winning documentary, An Ecology of Mind, a portrait of her father, Gregory Bateson.  Her work brings the fields of biology, cognition, art, anthropology, psychology, and information technology together into a study of the patterns in ecology of living systems.
