Witches
Description
Enter at your own risk. This concert is a night of shadows, spells, and things that creep in the dark — from the wildest ballet ever written to the most famous skeleton dance in music. Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring (in the brilliantly orchestrated Rudolf reduction) still sounds dangerous over a century after it shocked Paris. Saint-Saëns sends Death itself to lead the waltz, Dvořák summons a witch at noon, and we top the evening with Mussorgsky’s terrifying Baba Yaga as an encore. Bring a friend. Hold their hand.
Program:
Stravinsky — The Rite of Spring
Saint-Saëns — Danse Macabre
Dvořák — Polednice (The Noon Witch)
Gounod — Funeral March of a Marionette
Mussorgsky (Arr. Ravel) — Baba Yaga from Pictures at an Exhibition (Encore)
