Event description

Brunswick Street faces challenges. Customer habits are changing. We have empty shops, struggling businesses, crime, graffiti. Traders want action. The state wants population doubled by 2050. We need to adapt to changing climate and aging population. Flood mapping shows it turning into a river in an extreme event. What is our vision for Brunswick Street 2050?

Join us for this important Pubtalk as we discuss the issues facing Brunswick Street, the shorter and the longer-term vision for one of Melbourne iconic strips. Hear from:

  • FRA will outline findings from a survey on the current state of Brunswick Street
  • Night Cat owner Justin Stanford will discuss work of Brunswick Street traders seeking to revitalise the strip
  • Victoria Police will provide an update on crime and their response
  • Mayor Stephen Jolly talk about the Brunswick Street masterplan and work Council is doing on other shopping strips

Melbourne University Professor Dan Hill will draw on his rich international experience as an urbanist working at the intersection of design, technology and cities in the UK, Scandinavia, Italy, the Netherlands and Australia to lead a conversation about Brunswick Street 2050.
