Wollert Community Planting with DCMC and Urban Guerrillas
Description
Join Darebin Creek Management Committee and Urban Guerrillas for a community planting day at Wollert and help heal Darebin Creek’s northern Grassy Eucalypt Woodlands.
This project aims to restore a degraded remnant of the critically endangered Grassy Eucalypt Woodlands of the Victorian Volcanic Plains, of which less than 10% remains.
We’ll replant midstory trees and shrubs, groundcovers and creek-side aquatics, healing Country through the reestablishment of vegetation structure and diversity. Some of the plants were propagated by volunteers at recent workshops with nugal biik Plants and Seeds.
The morning will begin with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony presented by Uncle Colin Hunter Jnr, respected Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Elder.
Come along for a morning of planting, followed by a cuppa and a chat. Everyone is welcome – no experience necessary.
Don't forget to:
Wear sturdy closed shoes and dress for the weather (warm jacket, raincoat, sun hat etc.).
Bring drinking water.
This event is funded by the Victorian Government’s Green Links program, Melbourne Water, and the Australian Government’s Urban Rivers and Catchments Program, with the support of the Darebin Creek Management Committee, City of Whittlesea and Urban Guerrillas.
