Event description

Dr Victoria Hatton is a change maker who is passionate about food, food production and our food system.

She is the Chief Executive at FoodHQ Innovation, a public-private partnership that is New Zealand's leading hub of food and food production scientists. With the Board of Directors, she has recently launched a new ten year plan for tackling the challenges of the food industry.

Victoria previously led the climate change and sustainability team at the consulting firm PwC, drove ambitious climate action for both the UK and NZ governments, and worked at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation in Rome. Earlier in her career, Victoria spent five years leading research, development, policy and strategy teams at Massey University.  Victoria is also a trustee for the charity New Zealand Food Waste Champions 12.3, an organisation committed to solving the issues around food waste.

What Victoria plans for discuss on the night:

What does the farm of the future look like and how can we ensure that we build a truly sustainable food system in New Zealand that is equitable, innovative and export focussed?

Victoria's goal is to challenge thinking and push boundaries to ensure our food system thrives in a world that is climate and carbon constrained, where food choices are made because it gets delivered fastest, supply chains are shortened, and population growth will be exponential. Her belief is that we need to move beyond what we have always done – even though we do it well – and challenge ourselves to innovate for the future. Victoria will share her thoughts on our future food system.
