Event description

Join us for a special workshop on conducting sports history research in the lead up to the historic Ashes Test at the MCG!

Siren Sport and The MCC Library are excited to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the historic 1934/35 Test between Australia and England that we now consider the birth of the Women's Ashes. Before the teams take the field on 30 January, we invite you to spend the afternoon with us on Tuesday 28 January in the beautiful MCC Library with women's cricket and sports history experts for a workshop on how to conduct historical research and use sports history in storytelling.

This will be a hands-on workshop perfect for women and non-binary sports writers, emerging and established, who are keen to develop some more historical research skills to aid in their storytelling.

We will have historical storytelling experts in the room leading a workshop on how to find stories, conduct research and bring the story together.

Our experts feature leaders in the field:

Cricket historian, academic and sports journalist, Raf Nicholson

One of Australia's leading football and cricket historians and author of 'The Bodyline Fix', Marion Stell

One of Australia's leading Australian rules and netball historians and co-author of 'Play On', Rob Hess

Siren co-founder, historian, writer and audio producer, Kirby Fenwick

Siren co-founder and Deakin University sports media academic Kasey Symons

And last but certainly not least, MCC Librarians David Studham & Trevor Ruddell

This workshop is for writers, media, students and content creators at any stage and is designed to give you the '101' of doing historical storytelling in women's sport and will provide you resources and support to help you generate ideas and look for those gems in the archives. No experience is necessary.

We will prioritise places at this workshop for women and non-binary folk.

This event is FREE but spaces are very limited so book your spot now!
