Women In History Afternoon Tea: Victorian Funeral Practices

Event description

Beyond the Veil:  A Presentation on Victorian Mourning, Funeral and Burial Practices

Step back in time with local historian, Anna Thomas, to the Victorian Era (1820-1914).  In this presentation, you will learn about the shift in attitudes toward death and mourning.  Anna will cover topics such as post-mortem death photography, the rural cemetery movement and tombstone symbolism.  She will also explain the role of Victorian clothing...and, if there's time, she'll talk about grave robbers.
