AUMS, WISTEMS and the School of Mathematical Sciences have collaborated for a panel and afternoon tea in celebration of International Women in Mathematics Day on the 12th of May (Thursday week 9)! This year our theme is "Where do Women in Math go: Industry vs Academia", which aims to explore career choices and challenges for women in mathematics after their undergraduate degrees.
Our panellists are:
- Melissa Humphries: Lecturer at the University of Adelaide with research area in statistics. Early career outside of mathematics, later returning to university to change fields.
- Aline Kunnel: Recently completed a PhD in Statistics for gene expression data, now a Health Data Analyst at SAHMRI.
- Rachael Quill: Former Mathematics Lecturer at the University of Adelaide, now a forecast system developer at Weatherzone. Completed a PhD in Statistics, exploring statistical characterisation of wind fields over complex terrain with applications in bushfire modelling.
- Lou Campbell: Current PhD candidate in forensic statistics, both a researcher and a single mother.
- Rhaneela Punitham: Senior Consultant in Technology and Cyber Risk at KPMG, with a degree in Mathematics, Computer Science and Health Science.
