Women in Tech Workshop – Navigating being a woman in a systems-driven industry

Join Dovetail for a two hour interactive workshop led by Engineering Manager, Trish Trainor. If you are a woman in the tech industry in or near Wellington, this is a great opportunity to engage in an open discussion and explore the reality that comes with being a woman in technology and modern society at large. The technology industry, and particularly technical roles, remain heavily male-dominated and the sector has been slow to adapt how it operates to provide space for women to thrive.

Walk away with actionable strategies to apply to the system you exist within. Themes that will be explored include:

• Comparison
• Privilege
• Authenticity
• Vulnerability
• Worthiness
• Feedback

Long story short, we will be diving into what space we were given, how we occupy this space, and where we may be making compromises.

Plus, food and drinks will be provided! 🍣 🍹

About Trish Trainor: Trish (she/her) is originally from Ireland, and has lived in New Zealand since 2005. She has worked in the tech industry for over 20 years, and has been an engineering leader for the last 5. She has been in the tech industry long enough to have survived the Y2K bug, when Java was at 1.4, and a time when 2TB of storage was unconsciously considered ‘out of scope’ and resulted in a full redesign of hardware. She has three Kiwi kids – a 9-year-old boy and two 14-year-old twin daughters who refuse to fit in the same box. She has been previously known to have an appeal for 'rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic', which is a result of Trish seeing growth opportunities where others may not.

About Dovetail: Dovetail is a product agency, venture studio and VC firm that works with established and early-stage tech companies to build world-class products and new startups. They are best known for building the consumer-facing tech behind several unicorns, including Afterpay.
