NEW COURSE - Women only Masterclass in Woodcarving
Event description
This is a masterclass led by whittler and woodcarver Leigh Boek.
Leigh is a self-taught wood artist with extensive experience creating works for exhibition and sale.
In this 3 hour course, Leigh will introduce you to the ancient craft of whittling using knives and hand tools. Whittling is the art of removing wood to create shapes and sculptures. It is a relaxing, peaceful, mindful and creative pastime which has proven benefits for lifting moods. You’ll create a comfort bird: a small, smooth, hand-carved wooden bird designed to fit in the palm of your hand. It is given as a token of support to someone experiencing hardship, anxiety, or physical and emotional pain. Holding and rubbing the bird provides a tactile and calming sensation, similar to a worry stone, helping to relieve stress and anxiety.
