Women, Peace, and Security Dialogue on Gaza
Description
You're invited to join us for a virtual dialogue on May 9th at 4pm (AEST) focused on advancing the Women, Peace, and Security agenda in response to the conflict in Gaza. This session will bring the perspectives of Palestinian women's rights activists in the occupied Palestinian territories and in Australia. It aims to hear their insights into how the WPS agenda can be elevated in the current context, where women and children make up 70% of civilians who have been killed and are facing starvation and ongoing threats to their dignity and rights. It will examine the urgent role for women in conflict resolution and the urgent need for protection of civilians and accountability for sexual violence.
Speakers include:
- Soraida Hussein-Subbah, Gender & Advocacy Specialist with Alianza por la Solidaridad based in the West Bank
- Samah Sahawi, Palestinian author, playwright and poet based in Melbourne
With insights from Palestinian women, alongside members engaged in advocacy and humanitarian response in the current conflict, the interactive discussions will provide a unique platform for sharing insights, exchanging ideas, and collaborating on actionable approaches to elevate the WPS agenda in the complex context of Gaza.
We warmly invite you to join this important conversation, contribute your expertise, and help shape impactful recommendations for advancing peace and security efforts in Gaza.
