Women to the Front: Creating a Name Bank

Without the stories of women who shaped your community, place naming equality remains out of reach.

A name bank captures the stories of people who can be considered for future commemorations in geographic place naming and public art. When done well, it ensures public spaces reflect the diversity and richness of our communities.

This session supports GNV’s Remember a Local – Name a Place campaign, and will guide you in building a name bank that:

• Captures names, contributions and stories

• Is inclusive of all genders, identities and backgrounds

• Supports decision makers to increase gender equality in place naming and public art

Hear from government leaders who are already using name banks. Learn what it takes, what you need, who can assist, and other practical tips that will help you confidently prioritise and maintain your name bank.
