Women and Stories
Description
Every woman carries a story. Some are joyful, some are funny, and some were hard-won. All of them deserve to be heard.
Hindus for Human Rights Australia and New Zealand invites you to Women and Stories, an evening that celebrates women from every community through storytelling, music and dance. It draws on the long tradition of women sharing oral histories, folk songs and wisdom in safe, welcoming spaces. The evening is built so everyone takes part, not just watches.
What to expect
Spark story: a featured storyteller opens the evening.
Story circles: sit in small, hosted circles and share or simply listen. Prompts and interpreters will be on hand.
Women and Music: community singing with small handheld instruments from different traditions.
Community dance: Led by a professional dancer. Each story circle adds a step, and the whole room performs the finished dance together. A seated version is offered.
Community dinner: a shared meal of food and connection.
Date: Saturday 5 December 2026
Time: Women and Stories 4pm to 7pm | Community dinner 7pm to 8pm
Venue: The Blue Room, Multicultural Hub, Level 1, 506 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne
Who it’s for: women of all ages, cultures and faiths. Older women and women from newer and less represented communities are especially welcome. No experience needed. Come with a story to tell, or simply come to listen.
Accessibility: please tell us about any access, dietary, interpreter or transport needs when you register.
Filming: the final dance will be filmed and parts of the evening photographed. You can opt out at registration, and the story circles will not be recorded.
