Women's Winter Sweat Lodge
Event description
Women's Winter Sweat Lodge
Come, be with like-minded women in a safe and brave space in the darkness of Winter, a time for contemplation, healing and for the darkness that we so often try to avoid.
Sweat Lodge, Inip, Temescal, Celtic Sweat House
Sweat Lodge ceremonies have been used for centuries as a cleansing of mind, body and spirit. The sweat lodge is one of the most widespread traditions in Native North and Central America. The most common sweat lodge tradition today is that of the Lakota Sioux, who call it’ inip’. Sweat baths were not, however, limited to the American continents. Hot air baths were cultivated also across Russia, Greece, by Celts, and in other parts of Europe. There are still a few surviving Celtic Sweat houses in Ireland, Wales and Scotland. Having said that, in Europe this practice has nearly faded away. Even if not many, some shamanic healers are trying to bring it back to our daily lives by sharing and inviting people to experience this powerful Medicine.
What are the benefits?
Sweat lodge is a powerful tool to learn how to make inner peace and to connect to our non-egoic true-self. It is a great opportunity to reconcile ourselves with all our relationships, our health and our spiritual path. It is an opportunity to stop and find ourselves but also to celebrate Nature and our Ancestors. Even though these sweat baths are an invitation to journey inward, they are also providing great opportunities as a form of holistic therapy that carries physical, psychological, mental, and energetic benefits. The Sweat Lodge Ceremony is one of the most profound purifications available to us.
What are the potential risks?
The use of sweat lodges can cause some side effects due to prolonged exposure to high temperatures in a confined space. It is important for all participants to recognise the symptoms of heat-related exposure which can include: thirst, weakness, nausea, emotional instability, headache, increase in body temperature, pulse and respiration rate, dizziness, and painful urination. These can be mitigated before and during the ceremony (e.g. by sufficient hydration ahead of the bath). The shaman will provide you with all important information on how to prepare yourself ahead of the ceremony. It is important to note that at any point participants can leave the sweat lodge and the shaman herself will most of all be prioritising the health and safety of each of the participants. Before the ceremony the Lodge Pourer will check with each person their health, emotional and physical, and advise accordingly. Please complete the Health and Wellbeing screening form and Sweat lodge participant disclaimer.
