Event description
Location: Esk Rivermouth & Musselburgh Lagoons
Duration: 4 hours
Max Participants: 4
Time of Year: Sept - March
Price: £60 per person, or £180 for private group
This is primarily a bird watching workshop and is open to all skill levels. Beginners will learn how to distinguish between different bird families, the importance of the tide in planning a coastal visit and key bird identification features to focus on. More intermediate birders will get much more confident in identifying different sea ducks and wader species.
We will focus our workshop on three different habitats. At the Esk River we will look through any freshwater ducks, gulls and geese present with the potential for kingfisher and grey wagtail. We will then scope the sea for wintering sea ducks, Auks and Gannets. Lastly, we will visit the scrapes (small lakes and ponds) which are normally teaming with waders, including during migration the potential for a rare migrant or two. We would expect to see and identify about 50 species of birds during the workshop although our record is 66 (including 17 species of waders!)
What is included – Experienced guide, shared use of Swarovski scope, spare binoculars if needed, a full trip report including highlight photographs.
