Description

Wongi Gulyarra Waatu (Talking Oceans Together) is a community celebration of connection, knowledge and collective responsibility for our oceans.

Bringing together students, teachers, marine scientists, artists, community members and Wadandi Cultural Custodians, the celebration creates a space for Koorlin: deep listening, learning and sharing.  It weaves Aboriginal knowledge, Western science, creative expression and student inquiry to deepen our connection to and understanding of Waatu Boodja (Sea Country) through the Educational Marine Areas (EMA) Waatu Kaatajin (Ocean Learning) program.

At its heart are the voices of students from Cowaramup Primary School and Margaret River Montessori Adolescent program, who will share their learning journeys and creative work inspired by Waatu Maarin (Seagrass), Mammung (Whales), Djiljit (Fish) and more at their local EMA sites: Cowaramup Bay and Yallingup Lagoon.

Come and hear their stories as they bring together local ocean learning with science, culture, art, dance and community, while connecting to the growing global movement for Ocean Literacy.

Wongi Gulyarra Waatu recognises that the ocean connects us all and that caring for its future is a shared responsibility. It invites us to get inspired, listen to one another, value different ways of knowing and work together to care for our Waatu Boodja (Sea Country), starting locally, while thinking across oceans and generations.

Note: Your ticket includes a paella meal that we will share together before the show :). (GF, DF. To help reduce waste, you are welcome to bring your own reusable cutlery and container)

**We would also love you to wear something that connects you to the ocean for the evening… It could be as simple as a pair of shell earrings or a whole seagrass costume!

Music with Lemon Myrtle, performances created with Dawn Pascoe and Sari Bennett, and art and visual works with EncountersAgainandAgain.
