No. This class is beginner-friendly, and Hal Bitzer will guide participants through the process.

You’ll create a wooden knife spreader. The spreader will be partially carved to get you started. You’ll work the blade down, create the final shape, sand it smooth, and decorate the handle.

Kolrosing is a traditional decorative technique used to create fine designs in wood. Hal will demonstrate the technique and show how it can be used to decorate your carved handle.

What ages can participate?

The class is open to ages 15 and up.

Do I need to bring anything?

No. Materials and the tools needed for the class will be provided.

Will food or drinks be available?

Yes. Light refreshments will be available during the clas

WOOD CARVING CLASS — SEPTEMBER 26

Try your hand at wood carving with Hal Bitzer!

Join us Saturday, September 26, from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. at the Roseau County Museum to create your own wooden knife spreader.

You’ll start with a partially carved wooden spreader, then learn how to work the blade down, shape it, sand it smooth, and add your own decorative touches. Hal will also demonstrate Kolrosing, a traditional technique used to create detailed decorations in wood, which participants can use to decorate their carved handles.

No carving experience needed — just come ready to learn something new!
