Talk by Anne Schofield AM: ‘If these hands could speak’

Anne will give an informal talk about her 57 years in Queen Street and her long career as an antique dealer, historian and consultant, specialising in antique jewellery.

Anne began her career in 1967 with a stand at Kaleidoscope, a shop on the corner of Moncur and John Streets, and in 1968 bought a derelict shop and residence in Queen Street. After extensive restoration, in 1970 she opened Anne Schofield Antiques, her shop specialising in antique jewellery.

She deals in fine antique jewellery of every period from the 18th century to the 1950s, with special collections of ancient Roman intaglios and cameos, Indian tribal jewellery, Australian jewellery and South Sea pearls.

Anne co-wrote, with Kevin Fahy, the definitive book on the history of jewellery in Australia, which is a must for anyone interested in the decorative arts of this country – Australian Jewellery, 19th and Early 20th Century. She is offering a free copy of the book to those attending this talk.

Anne is a member of:

  • The Society of Jewellery Historians (SJH) based at the British Museum, London

  • The Australian Antique and Art Dealers Association (AAADA)

  • The Australiana Society

She is a Life Fellow of the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney, and a major donor. In 2022 she donated over 100 items of antique jewellery to the Powerhouse, Ultimo.

TIckets $59 including a copy of Australian Jewellery, 19th and Early 20th Century.
