WoRD X Discover Young Hackney: Intro To Creative Woodworking for 15-26 year olds! @ GED Hackney

Price £5 GBP + BF Register

Event description

The Woodshop of Recycled Delights and Discover Young Hackney are running:

FREE Creative Woodworking workshops for 15-26-year-olds in Hackney!

This is a free Introductory Workshop for young people aged 15-26, which will give you the skills and confidence to begin building whatever you want from reclaimed timber! You don't need any previous experience to join in!

Working with reclaimed timber not only reduces waste, but also creates great opportunities for artistic creation. Get a hands-on experience and add creative woodworking skills to your CV!

In this workshop you'll:
  • Get familiar with safely using hand- and power-tools
  • Learn basic carpentry techniques
  • Explore creative design approaches for woodworking projects
  • Learn how to source and treat reclaimed timber
  • Understand carbon impact

We want to share these skills with you, for free! In a supported group setting, you'll use tools to create a piece of garden furniture together.

Suitable for ages 15-26. Safety equipment will be provided but sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are advised. All tools and tuition are provided, you just need to turn up!

Once you've come along to the Intro Session you'll be able to join our Open Workshop sessions and come with your own project ideas!

These sessions are free, but we charge a refundable £5 deposit to make sure people turn up.

If money is a barrier to you, please don't let this get in the way. Everyone is welcome to our sessions no matter what they can afford, and if even the refundable deposit is tricky, do get in touch and we can waive it.

This workshop is funded by Discover Young Hackney - a Hackney Council initiative supporting young people to find their career in the arts.

Discover Young Hackney (DYH) celebrates and unlocks the talent of Hackney's young people through a programme of activities, workshops and events.

From podcasting, theatre, film, community activism, production and more, DYH aims to give young people aged 15-26, including those with SEND, the tools, skills and professional support to find a career in the arts and creative industries.

Now in its 17th year, DYH once again takes place over the summer holidays and partners with highly reputable arts organisations to promote cultural offerings for young people across the borough throughout August.
