Price £5 GBP + BF Register

Event description

The Woodshop of Recycled Delights and Discover Young Hackney are running:

FREE Creative Woodworking workshops for 15-26-year-olds in Hackney!

This is a Supported Open Workshop for young people aged 15-26, where you'll be supported by friendly facilitators to build your timber dreams!

Come with a project idea and we will help you to get building!

In this workshop you'll:
  • Get to extend your experience with safely using hand- and power-tools
  • Practice basic carpentry techniques
  • Explore creative design approaches for woodworking projects
  • Create your own reclaimed timber project with support from the WoRD team

Working with reclaimed timber not only reduces waste but also creates great opportunities for artistic creation. Get hands-on experience and add creative woodworking skills to your CV!

Suitable for ages 15-26. Safety equipment will be provided but sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are advised. All tools and tuition are provided, you just need to turn up!

NOTE: This workshop is for young people aged 15 - 26 who have previously attended a WoRD workshop, or who have some experience with woodworking.
If you have never attended a WoRD workshop or have limited experience with woodworking, we encourage you to book for one of our Introductory Sessions.

If money is a barrier to you, please don't let this get in the way. Everyone is welcome to our sessions no matter what they can afford, and if even the refundable deposit is tricky, do get in touch and we can waive it.

This workshop is funded by Discover Young Hackney - a Hackney Council initiative supporting young people to find their career in the arts.

Discover Young Hackney (DYH) celebrates and unlocks the talent of Hackney's young people through a programme of activities, workshops and events.

From podcasting, theatre, film, community activism, production and more, DYH aims to give young people aged 15-26, including those with SEND, the tools, skills and professional support to find a career in the arts and creative industries.

Now in its 17th year, DYH once again takes place over the summer holidays and partners with highly reputable arts organisations to promote cultural offerings for young people across the borough throughout August.
