    Event description

In September, George Aye led the Doing Design Differently Tour—a three-week, five-city speaking tour to Sydney, Perth, Melbourne, Auckland, and Wellington, talking with over 1,200 people across the region.

In this panel conversation, we ask George, Jade, Jethro and Emma (the organisers) to highlight the insights from the tour and what it might mean for designers working to create social or public impact.

One key difference that came to light is the issue of collaboration and competition in social design.

The panel will explore how social design operates in Australia, Aotearoa and America, tensions between ethics and economic imperatives, and how we might continue to support each other to share struggles and insights from our work.

Local partners in each city hosting George included: Folk; Beyond Sticky Notes; UNSW School of Art & Design; For Purpose; Melbourne Connect; Master of Design Futures, RMIT University; Design Programmes, Waipapa Taumata Rau | University of Auckland; and Toi Āria: Design for Public Good and the School of Design at Massey University.
