Workshop 3_ Risk Assessment - Applying Safe and Together Model with Risk Assessment and Management Framework (RAMF): Strengthening the Response Pathway for DFV
Description
Virtual Workshop
Workshop 3 - Risk Assessment
Applying Safe and Together Model with the Risk Assessment and Management Framework (RAMF): Strengthening the Response Pathway for DFV Screening, Risk Assessment and Risk Management in the Northern Territory
This interactive virtual workshop is the third workshop in the Safe and Together Model and RAMF integration workshop series and provides a deeper exploration of the risk assessment part of the response pathway. Participants will build on earlier learning to strengthen their understanding of how the Safe and Together Model and the Northern Territory Risk Assessment and Management Framework (RAMF) work together to support comprehensive, structured and informed risk assessment practice.
Using Empowering Growth's DFV Response Pathway Integration Tool, participants will explore how Safe and Together practice can strengthen the quality of information gathered and analysed within RAMF risk assessment processes. Throughout the workshop, participants will use the DFV Response Pathway Integration Tool as a practice guide to apply Safe and Together concepts within the RAMF risk assessment process. The workshop focuses on moving beyond the identification of domestic and family violence to understanding the significance of harm, risk and danger, while maintaining a clear focus on perpetrator behaviour, child impacts and survivor protective efforts.
This workshop explores:
Understanding the relationship between harm, risk and danger
Analysing perpetrator patterns of violence and abuse, including escalation and intent
Assessing impacts on children and young people
Recognising and documenting survivor strengths and protective efforts
Applying pattern-based professional judgement within the RAMF risk assessment pathway
Exploring intersections and intersectionalities that may influence assessment
Using Safe and Together and RAMF resources to inform assessment, documentation and decision-making
Through case studies, group discussion and practical application activities, participants will strengthen their ability to gather, organise and assess information in ways that support more accurate risk analysis, informed professional judgement and improved safety outcomes for adult and child victim-survivors.
This workshop provides a foundation for the subsequent Risk Management Workshop, where participants will focus on translating assessment information into effective safety planning, risk management and coordinated responses.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this workshop series, participants will be able to:
Understand how the Safe and Together Model and the NT Risk Assessment and Management Framework (RAMF) work together to strengthen domestic and family violence responses.
Identify opportunities to strengthen DFV screening and early identification across the response pathway.
Recognise how a trauma-informed, perpetrator-pattern-based approach can support the identification of coercive control, child impacts and survivor protective efforts.
Describe how Safe and Together Model concepts can strengthen RAMF risk assessment processes, including consideration of harm, risk and danger.
Identify key principles that support effective risk management, safety planning, perpetrator accountability and interagency collaboration.
Apply the DFV Response Pathway Integration Tool across screening, risk assessment and risk management.
Reflect on individual and organisational opportunities to strengthen integrated practice and improve outcomes for children, victim-survivors and families.
Develop practical actions to embed learning within their own role, team and organisation.
