Workshop: Metaphor and Image for Poets
Description
This two-hour online workshop will help poets consider how to use metaphors and images generally more effectively in their poems. What makes a good metaphor in a poem? How do metaphors and images interact with one another across a poem to strengthen its effect on readers? Tim Loveday will offer participants concepts and tools for exploring their use of metaphor, and will lead writing activities to embed this learning, with opportunities for discussion.
This workshop will benefit both new poets and those with an established poetic practice who want to deepen their technical understanding. The workshop will be held via Zoom. An access link will be emailed closer to the event.

Tim Loveday
Tim Loveday is a writer, poet, editor and academic. He is the poetry editor of Island Magazine and teaches creative writing at both the University of Melbourne and RMIT University. Tim has won the Dorothy Porter Poetry Award twice, the Venie Holmgren Environmental Poetry Award, the Calanthe Poetry Prize and the Wergle Flomp Humour Poetry Contest. His work has been widely published. Tim’s debut poetry collection “your father was a bastard” will be published by University of Queensland Press in 2027. More: timloveday.com.
